Autores Psi. The present article introduces the “Shadow” concept coined by Carl Gustav Jung and meaning what is hiding in the inside of the human being but, at the same time, determines the relationships established with oneself and with the social context. This shadow, though concealed, emerges and shows itself by means of jokes, lapsus, and dreams. In spite of the term “Shadow” being referred to as a personal question, it may also be noticed at a family level, showing itself through various ways. Along this article it will be described the way the shadow arises at three specific family-building stages: when choosing a mate, at the first child’s birth, and in violent episodes. This article is a second theoretical and conceptual advance on the Family Transformations Brought by Family Attachment, Couple’s Formation, First Child’s Birth, and Manifestations of Violence in SixFamilies from Amalfi and Santa Rosa de Osos (Municipalities of Antioquia) in 2007 research project. It is worth mentioning that the project was first introduced in the 21st Edition of this Online Journal entitled as “Peace Begins at Home: A Project for Identifying the Relationship between Intra-Family Violence and Each One of Three Critical Family Life-Cycle Stages: Couple’s Formation, Children’s Arrival, and Manifestations of Aggression in Twelve Families from Amalfi, Municipality of Antioquia, in 2007”. However, after a reconsideration process, the work team decided to rename the project, since going through these stages does not necessarily unleash violent episodes, but rather a kind of transformation, a shift, which is experienced by every family in a different way. It is also worth mentioning that the spatial scope of the research was expanded to include the Santa Rosa de Osos municipality, allowing the research team to establish comparison criteria.
